RISK MANAGEMENT ACTUARY
Founded in 2002, our client is a privately held corporation providing advanced risk management solutions to financial institutions, globally. Recognized internationally for its Asset Liability Management (ALM) expertise, the company has developed a highly specialized niche in the area of ALM for insurance companies and pension funds, establishing itself as a global industry thought-leader in ALM. The company operates four distinct businesses: Asset Management; Risk Management Consulting; ALM Software; and, Executive Training. In response to increased business demands, the organization has recognized the need to add to its intellectual capital base by hiring another key actuarial position. Based at the headquarters in Toronto, this new position will likely undertake leading-edge quantitative analysis and financial modeling, executing ALM strategies, portfolio optimization and trade recommendation, while performing sophisticated risk quantification for risk management consulting assignments. Depending on the personality make-up of the hired candidate, this actuary could also play a high profile role in marketing meetings and client relationship management/development, while supporting the successful delivery and enhancement of best-in-class risk training programs. We seek a FSA with five-to-seven years of interesting and appropriate business experiences (US experience an asset). Ideally, the selected candidate would hold the CERA and CFA designations, but this is not a pre-requisite. The preferred technical background will lean towards ALM/ERM, executing hedging strategies, analyzing, reporting and managing risk for insurance or retirement plans. Alternatively, the client will look at new actuaries with background/interest in less traditional areas (i.e. investment banking, fixed income/equity investment management or derivative modeling, stochastic modeling of interest rates, risk quantification, life insurance or retirement plan product design and costing, etc.) and a passion for harnessing/development your risk management potential. MANAGING DIRECTOR & HEAD, INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT DISTRIBUTION
A major financial institution is set to aggressively grow its wealth management offering and requires a new managing director to oversee all strategic initiatives within its discretionary investment management unit. With responsibility for over 135 staff (13 offices, nationally) this individual will guide the profitable growth of the private client business, which targets the high net worth segment. This is a very senior, complex and multi-dimensional mandate, touching on sales management, customer service, human resources, operations, technology, compliance and investment philosophy. As the de-facto general manager of this strategic business unit, this managing director will “own” this business and will have considerable latitude in re-positioning the assets under management for long-term sustainable growth. LEAD PRODUCT ACTUARY, DISTRIBUTION
Our client is a well respected Canadian Life Insurance Company that is based in Toronto, Ontario. Recently as a result of a new strategy that involves an aggressive product development mandate, the decision was made to launch a search for a Lead Product Actuary (U.S. Products).
The overall mandate for the Lead Product Actuary will be to develop innovative product solutions in support of the organization’s strategy to excel at product development and marketing. This includes providing design feedback to Marketing, leading all activities that involve the setting of prices and values and supporting implementation and regulatory compliance activities.
Our ideal candidate is a qualified FSA or perhaps an individual who is at the latter stage of writing his/her exams. Knowledge of financial products including life insurance, annuities and segregated funds as well as health for both the Canadian and U.S. markets would be advantageous as would experience in the pricing and design of these products.
Other key qualifications include a good understanding of the regulatory and compliance issues for financial products, including illustration issues for both Canada and the U.S. As well as knowledge and understanding of policyholder taxation issues as they pertain to and impact life, health and annuity products.
We are seeking a strong communicator who is able to effectively interface with key distribution partners and who is capable of successfully communicating complex actuarial concepts to a broad and diverse audience that includes non-technical individuals.
